New LTC 1050 for Ley-Krane
German crane and access rental company Ley-Krane has taken delivery of a new 50 tonne Liebherr LTC 1050-3.1 city type All Terrain crane, with the new shorter cable extended boom, RemoteDrive system and elevating operator's cab.
Launched last year, the shorter five section 31 metre boom offers a much faster telescope speed and features two boom extension modes: ‘Fast mode’ which extends each section simultaneously and ‘Strong mode’ which extends section two all the way out before extending the other smaller sections sequentially.
The RemoteDrive function can be used to control all crane functions from outside of the cab, including drive and steer, allowing the operator to stand in front of the crane and manoeuvre it through a narrow access point into a tight space such as inside an industrial building. The crane also includes VarioBase outrigger set up, and a bi-fold 7.1 to 13 metre swingaway extension which takes the maximum tip height to more than 46 metres. The 1.5 metre assembly jib is integrated into the extension and has been supplied with a set of sheaves and searcher hook.

Ley-Krane already has an LTC 1050-3.1 with the Telematic boom, while the new crane replaces a 40 tonne crane. Markus Ley said: “It takes the strain off the operator and enables lifts to be made which otherwise would not be possible in safety. The crane has a great engine and is very comfortable to drive. In our mountainous region, that gives the crane driver a real feeling of safety. I tend to buy the cranes that I would like to work with myself. We also get extraordinary support from the Liebherr plant in Ehingen.”
Ley-Krane is based in Gummersbach, to the east of Cologne, and runs a fleet of more than 300 aerial work platforms including booms, scissor lifts, trailer lifts and truck mounts, topped by a 185ft JLG 1850SJ, along with 17 mobile cranes with capacities from 30 to 500 tonnes and employs a team of 31. Founded in 1850 the company is now managed by the sixth generation of the same family.
