Emergency lowering injury
A man was badly injured in Völkermarkt, southern Austria, last week, while using the emergency down control on a scissor lift.
The man was part of a team carrying out welding work at an industrial plant in the town. Two of the men were working from a scissor lift with a platform height of 1.5 metres, but when they went to lower the platform, it would not function.
They called their colleague over and asked him if he would operate the emergency lowering control. However, the platform came down much faster than expected catching his hand in the scissors and severing the middle finger on his right hand.
The man, 35, was treated by paramedics on site, before he was taken to hospital.
