Hewden achieves a million
Hewden, the UK’s largest rental company achieved a significant health and safety milestone this week, when its workforce of 3, 600 notched up one million hours without a single reportable Lost Time Incident (LTI) occurring.
Furthermore, Hewden, which operates from 360 depots nationwide, reports that it has achieved two million working hours without there being a lost time incident caused by a motor vehicle accident (MVA).
“Health and safety is a core value at Hewden and we are consistently looking to improve standards still further,” said Tom Corrigan, head of safety and quality services at Hewden.

Hewden has chalked up an impressive safety record
Hewden’s internal health and safety programme includes regular monthly meetings between senior management and heads of business and an ongoing training schedule for managers in the use of Hewden’s Safety Management System.
Last month, the thousandth employee attended the 2007 Hewden Environmental Health and Safety road show. In July last year, every Hewden employee received an individual copy of a Hewden Pocket Safety Guide.
“Ensuring that a culture of health and safety permeates the whole organisation is essential to the wellbeing and productivity of our workforce and customers. Our accident rate has decreased significantly and this proves that our companywide effort to focus on health and safety is having a positive effect,” added Corrigan.
