Strike action ends

The industrial dispute at Tanfield Engineering Systems, (TES) part of the group which owns UpRight Powered Access, has been settled with both parties reaching agreement.

In April, around 120 employees at TES took industrial action over pay. The workforce at the TES sub-contract engineering plant, represented by the Amicus, GMB and T&G unions, walked out in a series of strikes over demands for a wage increase of £1 an hour.

The facility affected by the strike is based in Stanley, County Durham, UK and carries out sub-contract engineering work for companies such as Caterpillar and BAE Systems. It supplies only a few components to UpRight Powered Access, largely for the ex Aerial products.

A Tanfield spokesman said: “We negotiated a settlement that was more in line with our initial offer of 2.5 percent and this proved satisfactory to all parties.”

The 250,000sq ft Vigo Centre assembly facility for UpRight and SEV, in Washington, Tyne & Wear, was not involved in the industrial action.
