Nationwide goes Green
Nationwide's truck-mounted lift division, Skylift, is investing £2.5million this year in a new fleet of truck mount platforms with the Euro 5 chassis. The standard is a further step to reduce emission levels of CO2 and other pollutants.
"This major step is being taken a good two years before the compliance legislation comes into force, and it shows how serious we are about reducing our corporate carbon footprint,"
said Peter Whittall, Nationwide's managing director.

"As well as the environmental aspect, the choice of machines reflects the company's general policy of buying equipment with the highest possible specification".
"Our aim is to focus on green issues across the board, we are promoting shared facility practice on larger projects to reduce plant movement, and in partnership with the Carbon Trust, environmental audits are being carried out in all of our depots."
Nationwide is also looking at the potential of introducing an eco-levy scheme in the future, which would help offset the extra costs involved in making the business as green as possible. The idea is that 50 percent of this charge would help finance the ecological improvements, and the remaining 50 percent would be donated to three or four worthy green charities.
