400 Genies for Mills

Brazilian rental company Mills has ordered around 400 Genie booms and scissor lifts, all of them being electric or hybrid powered.

They include three models of its E-Drive slab electric scissor lifts, the 19ft GS-1930, 26ft 26GS-2632 and 32ft GS-3246, along with 25 FE articulated 4x4 hybrid boom lifts.

The Genie E-Drive scissor lifts

The company claims that when deliveries of the new machines have been completed in January, it will have the largest electric and hybrid fleet in Brazil and South America.
Business director Eduardo Lema said: “By partnering with Genie, we are ensuring our customers’ jobsites will benefit from quality equipment that delivers superior performance, while helping us solidify our position as a leading provider of sustainable, clean powered equipment.”

All units will have the optional Genie Lift Connect telematics system installed, providing real time performance data, while helping with preventive maintenance of the platforms, as well as reducing onsite service requirements.

This is a strategically important deal for Genie. Mills has started updating its fleet after years of low to zero investment as it battled a tough business climate and earlier over extension. Although it does run a mixed fleet and has plenty of Genie and Skyjack lifts, it did seem to have forged a strong relationship with JLG in recent years.

It is also interesting to see it going for direct electric wheel motor drive and hybrid power, in a market what some
would classify as a ‘developing market’ and therefore more likely to stick with hydraulic wheel motor drive, and lower priced diesel booms.
