More cranes and platforms for Johnson Arabia

Dubai based Johnson Arabia has taken delivery of a new 450 tonne Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 along with a range of new JLG aerial work platforms and two brand new MAN tractor units. All part of an expansion and renewal programme.

The eight axle LTM 1450-8.1 features a seven section 85 metre main boom, VarioBallast variable counterweight and VarioBase outrigger set up and monitoring. The single engine crane features an Eco mode fuel economy setting and can be equipped with a wide range of lattice extensions including a luffing swingaway which can be extended to 56 metres for a 132 metre tip height, and luffing or fixed jibs.

The aerial lift additions include the 19ft R1932, 26ft R2632, 32ft R3246 and 40ft R4045 - all from the latest version of JLG’s R or Rental product line. The boom lifts delivered so far include the 45ft 450AJ articulated boom lift, along with 66ft 660SJ, 86ft 860SJ and 120fft 1200SJP telescopics all of which are diesel powered. But the company has also purchased 45ft, 52ft and 60ft EC450, EC600 and EC520 electric booms, which are relatively new to the region.

Managing director Martin Kirby said: “As market leaders we constantly evaluate what our clients are hiring on a larger scale from us and what will have long term benefit to our fleet and that is why we have decided to invest in so many new machines.”

Aerial lift manager Joe Keely added: “As Dubai moves towards a more sustainable approach a lot of our clients were becoming conscious of the emissions they generate and we found that electric platforms were being sent out a lot more, so we had to ensure we improved our existing fleet to meet the market needs.”

Crane manager Mohammad Fareed said: “This environmental consciousness is also a factor with our new 450 tonne Liebherr which has ECOmode so that the mobile crane’s fuel consumption is reduced by up to 10 percent in addition to its massive lifting capabilities. The new crane was acquired through our partnership with Adrighem because they are pioneers in large crane supply and hold a vast equipment inventory that they manage from their headquarters in Netherlands. With the new terminal in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands."

The two new MAN tractor units join the fleet as part of a plan to give the company more control over the logistics and transport of its rental fleet, which it believes will help provide customers with a better service.

Established in 1999 Johnson is based in Dubai, but now also operates throughout the gulf region, with locations in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain with a fleet of 250 mobile cranes, a small fleet of Maeda spider cranes and 700 aerial work platforms.
