Algeria’s first Tadano GR-900EX-4

Algerian crane rental company MMS - Meliah Makoudi Services has taken delivery of a new 90 tonne Tadano GR-900EX-4 Rough Terrain crane.

The GR-900EX-4 was launched in April last year (See: Tadano confirms Euro RTs) and features a five section 47 metre boom, plus a 10.1 to 17.7 metre bi-fold swingaway extension with up to 45 degrees of offset providing a maximum tip height of 67.5 metres. The maximum radius is 42 metres with the main boom or 52 metres with the extension.

MMS was established in 2003 and runs a fleet of 11 cranes topped by a 200 tonne Liebherr All Terrain, and works with a variety of industries including oil & gas, petrochemical and construction etc...

The new crane arrives in Southern Algeria

Chief executive Meliah Makoudi said: “We had great experiences with the previous Tadano purchases. Our fleet already includes six Tadano Rough Terrains from 55 to 80 tonnes, but this is the first GR-900EX-4 to arrive in Algeria. The main qualities that we look for are safety and reliability. Also, robustness - the fact that Tadano cranes rarely break down. We did not have any technical problems.”

“We are seeing major developments within the oil industry in Algeria, creating significant demand for cranes and other equipment. At the same time, the Algerian government has stopped the import of used cranes, boosting demand for new models. All of our cranes are currently full mobilised.”
As soon as the new crane arrived in the country it had to travel 1,000 kilometres across the desert to the MMS base in Hassi Messaoud in the oil rich area of Southern Algeria. A four man crew was given familiarisation training on operating and rigging the new crane by Tadano distributor, Manyl Machinery which is based in Chéraga on the north west side of Algiers.

“We have a really good relationship with the Tadano distributor. They were very involved and helpful all along,” said Makoudi. “Everything was satisfying. We were kept informed on each step of the process when it was delivered and then had good support for installation and start-up of the crane.”
