80ft TraX boom arrives in Germany
German sales and rental company BSI has taken delivery of one of the first 80ft Genie S-80 J TraX tracked boom lifts to arrive in the country.
The S-80 J TraX is the only quad track boom lift of this height, as the capacity of the independent track units cannot handle the weight of the typical 80ft boom lift. But when Genie unveiled the new lower weight S-80-J at Conexpo in March 2020, it come possible. See:

The S-80 J TraX features a short riser, a three section telescopic boom topped by a 1.8 metre articulating jib to provide a 26.5 metre working height, up to 16.8 metres of outreach and an unrestricted platform capacity of 300kg. The overall weight of the Trax machine is just over 13 tonnes.

BSI managing director Sven-Meyland Nielsen said: "We decided on the innovative S-80 J TraX because the 26.51 working height combined with the track drive was missing in our range. This combination of working height and track drive is only offered by Genie, making it a unique and ideal addition to any rental fleet.”

“The S-80 J TraX is ideal for applications in steel and timber construction, forestry, and year-round applications where the ground is rough. In fact, the boom’s first job is forestry work in Northern Germany’s Harz mountains, picking fir cones that are needed for their seeds. Good off-road mobility and the TraX system make the S-80 J TraX the ideal machine for the five month job, which can only be done during the winter months.”

“It is precisely this versatility — the ability to work in any terrain even during the winter — that guarantees a good utilisation rate. For these special applications, this unique machine is in high demand and, therefore command excellent rental rates.”
