Genie lifts for Islam's holy sites

Saudi crane, aerial lift and telehandler distributor Medco has started delivering 135 Genie boom and scissor lifts to the facilities management division of major contracting group Al Majal Al Arabi for cleaning and maintenance work on the mosques of Mecca (Makkah al-Mukarramah) and Medina (Al Madinah Al Munawwarah ) - the most important and holy sites in the country and Islam.

The order includes the 60ft S-60 J and 80ft S-80 J lighter weight telescopic boom lifts which will be used for external facade and general offsite maintenance, a range of GS E-Drive slab electric scissor lifts for indoor maintenance, along with 60ft all-electric Z-60 DC articulated boom lifts for use in general facility management and cleaning tasks.

In particular the E-Drive scissor lifts were chosen for their indoor/outdoor ratings and direct electric drive with their significantly lower risk of leaks in the historic sites.

General manager Emad Mukhalalaty said: "Medco is proud to be the first supplier for Genie equipment to the two holy mosques in Makkah and Madinah. This is one of the most prestigious and demanding projects that Medco has won in recent years, and we feel that serving the holy mosques is not only a duty and responsibility, but an honour that we value and shall provide for."

Riyadh regional managed Mohammed Kamal added: “We believe winning this deal was not a strike of luck, but rather a full understanding of customer needs and application derived from several site visits inspecting the toughest to reach points in The Haramain (Holy Site). Our coordination with Genie regional sales team also played a part, the equipment met Al Majal’s specific technical requirements, and the equipment was able to be delivered within the required lead times to win this high profile project.”

Based in Jeddah, Medco was established in 1967 by Saleh and Ibrahim Alfadl and remains a 100 percent Saudi Arabian owned business.
