Crane operator fatality

A crane operator died last week in Malibu, California, after he lost control of his city type All Terrain on a steep canyon road near the town and Pacific Coast highway.

The two axle Demag AC30 City, owned by Champion Crane, All Terrain, crashed into an electricity pole, bringing it crashing down into the road in two or three pieces, while causing the crane to overturn onto its side crushing the cab against a barrier.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, brought the live power lines down into the road, so that when the emergency services arrived on the scene, they had to wait until the power was switched of and the scene declared safe. By the time they reached the operator he was already dead.
