Fatal crane operator fall

A crane operator died after falling while climbing a tower crane ladder in the Applecross suburb of Perth, Western Australia on Friday.

The man, 62, reportedly fell around three or four metres having reached a height of around 25 metres. A doctor getting a coffee at a place next to the site, saw the incident and rushed over to help but it was too late, the man was declared dead at the scene.

The CFMEU union asked that all cranes in the suspend work for the rest of the day as a sign of respect.
CFMEU state secretary Mick Buchan said: “It is with extreme sadness that CFMEU acknowledge the loss of another construction worker this morning - a crane operator and ‘brother of the hook’ working on a site in Applecross. Cranes across the city stand still today with their hooks up in recognition and respect for one of our own. Our most heartfelt condolences to friends, workmates, and most of all to the family.”
