Canada’s first AC 4.080-1
Pete Smith Crane Rental & Rigging of Toronto, has taken delivery of the first Tadano AC 4.080-1 to arrive in Canada.
The four axle AC 4.080-1 features a seven section, 60 metre boom and is equipped with the 8.5 to 16 metre bi-fold swingaway extension for a maximum tip height of almost 79 metres and 40 degrees of offset. The crane can carry up to 9.3 tonnes of counterweight on board and still be fully roadable in Ontario with 12 tonne axle loads. Once on site it can travel with its entire counterweight of 17.7 tonnes plus 600kg of additional rigging gear.

Pete Smith (L) with Dan Sweeney of Tadano dealer Cropac
Pete Smith, owner of the company who also doubles as a crane operator said: “I bought the Tadano AC 4.080-1 because it has a long main boom and the Flex Base system that works with IC-1 Plus, it was a no-brainer. I can take this machine downtown Toronto into an alleyway, I know before I even get out of the carrier cab where the outriggers will be, and it has a fantastic chart with the 9.3 tonne counterweight configuration which is legally roadable in Ontario. As for the downtown core type work for roof top units and the HVAC mechanical side, I think this crane is going to prove handy in that market. With the competitor's crane in this class of ATs, you either get 50 or 51 metres of main boom with the same counterweights so It just made sense."
