Crane splits

A truck crane superstructure broke away from its chassis on a job in Warsaw, Poland yesterday.

The incident occurred at the Pole Mokotowskie metro station, in the Mokotów area of the city, with the boom coming down across a side street, striking the back of a car. However the only person to be hurt in the incident was the crane operator who suffered minor injuries and shock and was treated briefly in an ambulance.

The crane is owned and operated by the civil engineer/transport infrastructure contractor Mosty Łódź and looks like a Liebherr LTF 1035-3.1 commercial chassis truck mount.

Vertikal Comment

This is a very rare type of incident these days, and when it does occur is usually down to improperly torqued slew ring bolts. An investigation has been launched, but should be wrapped up very quickly, if they know what they are doing.

Thankfully no one was hurt and damage to others kept to a minimum, it could so easily have been much much worse.
