Another LG 1750 for Global

Global Wind Projects has taken delivery of a second 750 tonne Liebherr LG 1750 mobile lattice crane as part of its plans to meet growing demand from the onshore wind power market. The company’s first LG 1750 was delivered last November and is part of a major investment in the fleet.

The eight axle LG 1750 has been updated over the years to meet wind turbine erection requirements with the SX/ SX2 boom configurations and heavy duty jib which provides high capacities at hook heights of up to 175 metres. Maximum tip height with the optional luffing jib is 200 metres. Other capacities that makes it an increasingly popular crane for lifting wind turbine components, include 400 tonnes at a 20 metre radius and up to 105 tonnes at a 165 metre hook height and 34 metre radius.

The new crane is dual branded with Global Wind Projects and sister company Global Crane Services livery. It went straight to work at the Sheskin Wind Farm in County Mayo, Ireland for Norde and will then move to SSE’s Yellow River Wind Farm in County Offaly to help with the installation of 29 turbines.

Global’s Ryan Burke, said: “The purchase of this new Liebherr LG 1750 doubles our capability for specific wind project requirements so it's a hugely significant investment for the company. The new crane has already been deployed to Ireland on its first job installing five onshore wind turbines for Nordex at ABO Wind Ireland’s Sheskin Wind Farm. Having two LG 1750s in our fleet will help us meet the growing demand for our onshore wind crane and installation services and support the further growth of Global Wind Projects.”

Liebherr sales manager, Lyle Sibbald added: “We have built up a very strong relationship with Global Port Services over a number of years and were delighted to supply this brand new LG1750 which is recognised as one of the most versatile and productive heavy cranes on the market and will certainly play a vital role in Global Wind Projects wind farm work, as well as Global Crane Services heavy lifting projects.”

Established in 2013, with the acquisition of Port Services Group - which traces its roots back to 1986 - Global Crane Services is based in Inverness and operates from four locations including the Port of Nigg facility which it owns at the entrance to the Cromarty Firth. In all the Global business runs a fleet of 64 cranes ranging from 50 to 1,000 tonnes capacity.

Global Wind Projects was set up in April 2021 and has seen substantial growth since then as the market grows and players such as Windhoist droped out of the market.
