Sunward adds electric RT boom

Sunward has added its new 46ft electric articulated Rough Terrain boom lift- the SWA16JE - to its European product range.

The new model features a classic dual sigma type riser, two section telescopic boom and articulated jib for a maximum working height of 15.8 metres, with a working outreach of just over eight metres at an up & over height of 7.5 metres with a 230kg unrestricted maximum platform capacity.

SWA16JE with slab tyres

The standard specification includes four wheel drive, 360 degree continuous slew, 160 degrees platform rotation and oscillating axle. The battery electric model is largely identical to the diesel variant apart from the power source and associated controls etc… The overall width is 1.75 metres, with a total weight of 7,800kg.

Over 100 aerial lifts and a few telehandlers left the factory for export markets on August 28th

The new machine was displayed at a number of events this summer, including the recent Platformers Days and GIS exhibitions, the CE versions now ready for delivery following a massive bulk shipment of aerial work platforms to overseas market that left the factory in China on August 28th.

When it comes to communication Sunward is quite poor, particularly when it comes to aerial work platforms, which are to some extent the poor relations to its earthmoving equipment and cranes.

The company has been selling its scissor lifts in Europe for some time, now but this is the first boom lift it has marketed in the region. It also has a 60ft articulated boom and some mid-size telescopics which, as far as we know are not yet available here. And it does not yet market any of its work platforms in North America or Oceania/Australia.

The SWA16JE brings little if anything new to the market, but its performance characteristics are as good as most 45ft articulated booms. It is a little narrower than some, but not as narrow as Niftylift for example, and is heavier than most unit at close to eight tonnes. But Sunward does make a decent excavator and a good mini crawler crane, and one might assume that applies to platforms. The brand is also generally well known so … if the price and finance are right, it will sell.
