Van hits truck mount

In the UK, a man using a truck mounted platform to install Christmas lights in the Yorkshire village of Aston Cum Aughton, to the east of Sheffield, has suffered life changing injuries after his platform was struck by a Transit van on Friday evening.

The man, 42, was rushed to hospital and remains, we understand, in critical condition, his colleague, 30, was also taken to hospital with an injury, but was later released. The van driver, 23, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and later released on bail.

Aston Cum Aughton parish council which had commissioned the lights said: "Two engineers were taken to hospital one has now left hospital and the other is in a critical condition. The parish council send their thoughts and prayers to the injured gentleman."

As Christmas approaches the man is still in serious condition in hopsital, more than two weeks after he was injured in the incident.
