Five dead in hoist incident

Earlier this afternoon we received the tragic news that all five occupants of the hoist that crashed to the ground in Sundbyberg, Stockholm on Monday have now died.

The hoist, an Alimak Scando 650, appears to have had an issue with the mast, we now understand that the hoist had reached its intended floor when a section of the mast suddenly went over or detached causing the car to crash to the ground from a height of around 20 metres. We have also been told that several companies and sites in Sweden have shut down their hoists until they are thoroughly inspected.

At this stage there is nothing else to be said.
But we will update this and the previous article when we learn more. See: First findings from fatal hoist incident

UPDATE

We have since learnt that the hoist was installed by a company that traded as ABC Bygghissar, which was dimissed from the project and failed a few weeks after the indident. A new Scando 650 was eventually installed on the project by the rental company Cramo, which took over the contract from ABC Bygghissar.
