Fatal fall
A man died earlier this week after falling from a platform at a home improvement store in Ionia, Michigan - roughly halfway between Grand Rapids and Lansing.
The man, 26, an employee of the Menards store, was working from an aerial work platform at a height of around six metres when he fell over the side of the platform, landing on the concrete floor below. He was treated at the scene, and then rushed to the local hospital where he died later from his injuries.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office said that an initial investigation found that all the safety equipment on the machine was in working order. It suggested that fall was a result of improper use of the lift. However, a further investigation will be carried out by Michigan OSHA and the Ionia County Medical Examiner’s Office.
