US rental company W.O. Grubb has taken delivery of a 400 tonne Grove GMK6400-1 All Terrain crane.
The six axle GMK6400-1 was launched at Bauma 18 months ago and features a five section 60 metre main boom, a Stage V/Tier 4 Final diesel, an upgraded hydraulic system and Maxbase variable outrigger set up system. It can be equipped with up to 79 metres of luffing jib for a 136 metre maximum tip height, while Grove’s Mega Wing Lift self-rigging Superlift system, increases lift capacities by up to 70 percent on the main boom and up to 400 percent on the luffing jib.

Owner and chief executive Bill Grubb said: “We were keen to utilise the latest technology and improve portability without compromising lifting performance. This prompted us to upgrade from our trusty GMK6300L to the GMK6400-1. With Mega Wing Lift and luffing capability, this is our first investment in a brand new, large, All Terrain crane - tailored to the Portsmouth and Newport News market.”

The crane has already carried out its first job removing lock gates at the Deep Creek Locks on the the Intracoastal Waterway in Chesapeake, Virginia and has now moved to the James river water treatment plant in Newport News.
The new crane was purchased through Grove dealer MGX. Sales director Bruce Austin said: "MGX and W. O. Grubb have had a successful partnership for several years. We are excited that Grubb is adding the GMK6400-1 to its fleet. With the capabilities of this crane, I am confident that it will perform exceptionally well for them in the Mid-Atlantic region."
Established in 1962 by William O. Grubb, the son of a crane operator, the company is based in Richmond, Virginia, where it has three locations, along with nine branches across Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. It is still family owned and is now managed by a second generation in the form of Williams' son Bill. Its fleet contains All Terrains, Rough Terrains, truck, industrial Pick & Carry and lattice crawler cranes, topped by a 750 tonne Liebherr LR1750/2.
