Dual man basket fatality

We have just learnt of an incident in Izmir, Turkey on January 18th in which two men died after a chain set, hook, shackle or lug supporting a man basket on a crane hook, gave way, causing the men to fall to the street below.

The men, Halil Gül, 34, and Hüsnü Akan, 35, were employed by an advertising agency and had been lifted to the 10th floor of an office block on Fethi Sekin Street, reportedly the Sunuku Plaza building, in order to install a sign. They were rushed to hospital but died from their injuries by the time they arrived.

The crane’s owner given as ‘E.P’ and crane operator ‘F.Y.’ were both detained by police for questioning. So far we have been unable to obtain further details or any updates.
