Germany's Technical Relief Agency (THW) has taken delivery of 12, 50 tonne Liebherr LTC 1050-3.1 city type All Terrain cranes.
The three axle LTC 1050-3.1 features a five section 36 metre telematic main boom plus a 7.5 to 13 metre bi-fold swingaway extension. Other features include a 7.8 metre elevating cab and the RemoteDrive system which allows the operator to control the crane chassis from the remote controller.

THW paid €913,000 each with the first two going to branches in Bremen and Lower Saxony where they replaced 25 tonne Krupp KMK 2025s.

THW president Sabine Lackner said: "Bridge construction is one of our core competencies. We prove this again and again, because extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. After heavy rains in 2021, we had to restore a number of bridges in Germany. But we are also known for overseas bridge construction.”

“Last summer, THW emergency forces built two bridges after floods in Slovenia. The procurement of 12 mobile cranes is an important sign for civil protection and part of the continuous improvement process in the THW."
An LTC 1050-3.1 at work on a bridge
Klaus-Dieter Büttgen of THW added: "The new highly mobile cranes will be used within our bridge construction specialist groups. If access is particularly narrow or tight our volunteers are able to move the crane very precisely from the outside by means of the remote controls."
Established in 1950, the THW is the voluntary emergency organisation of the German federal government. Around 88,000 volunteers from across the country are involved each year in its operations.
