First Liebherr for KönningKrane

German rental company KönningKrane of Stadtlohn near the German Dutch border west of Munster has taken delivery of its first Liebherr All Terrain crane, a 180 tonne LTM 1160-5.2 – its new flagship crane.

The five axle LTM 1160-5.2 features a six section 62 metre main boom and a 10.8 to 19 metre bi-fold swingaway extension. Three additional seven metre lattice sections can be installed between the boom nose and swingaway for a maximum tip height of 104 metres.

The 180 tonne rating and overall travel width of 2.75 metres were key factors in the company’s decision making process.
The handover

Verena Könning, the third generation of the family to manage the business, since taking over from Marcel Könning just over a year ago, said: "The LTM 1160-5.2 is no wider than 2.75 metres and has unbeatable lifting capacities in its class. It is significantly more powerful than comparable cranes. Liebherr's service, and the fact that we are close to the Liebherr branch in Oberhausen is also a benefit."

Joint managing director Johannes Bendfeld added: "Liebherr delivers innovations that make crane operations safer and more efficient, such as the VarioBase variable outrigger set up and the VarioBallast adjustable counterweight radius. The LTM 1160-5.2 enables us to carry all of the ballast on two vehicles without needing additional permits. With just one ballast transport, we already have 29 tonnes of counterweight on the crane and can rent it out as a 130 tonner

Established in 1985, KönningKrane has around 20 cranes in its fleet, ranging from 40 to 180 tonnes capacity, the fleet also includes mobile self-erecting tower cranes and aerial work platforms as well as transport, recovery and tree felling.
