A man working on a telegraph pole from the platform of truck mounted lift had a surprise when a thief jumped in the cab and attempted to drive off.
The incident occurred in central Abbotsford, Canada - west of Vancouver - on July 6th 2020 but has only just come to light as the thief has been prosecuted.
The Police said that the machine’s platform caught up on the pole that the man was working on. As the lift came to a temporary halt he unclipped his harness and managed to jump to safety, sustaining minor injuries.
The thief then reversed away from the pole and headed off down the street, catching the platform on a street lamp and then a traffic light pole, ripping off the fibreglass bucket and extension arm in the process, both of which were left behind at a McDonalds.
The truck was found abandoned nearby but the police managed to apprehend the man, Patrick Russell Thomas, 33, as he tried to steal another vehicle.
The moral of this story? Don't leave your keys in the cab, or lock the cab door?
