New European logistics base for Bobcat

Skid steer and telehandler manufacturer, Bobcat, has opened a new 100,000 square metre, European Logistics Centre in Puurs, Belgium for all of its products.

The new Megacentre Puurs II is owned and operated by the Fiege Group on behalf of Bobcat. The facility is responsible for the procurement, distribution and transport of new machines and attachments for Bobcat in the Europe, Africa and Middle East region.

The new Bobcat European Logistiscs Centre in Puurs

The new Puurs facility represents the next milestone in the ongoing co-operation between the Fiege Group and Bobcat. It builds on the work the Fiege Group has been carrying out since 1998, handling logistics for Bobcat spare parts from a facility at Mülheim an der Ruhr in Germany.

The decision to locate the facility in Puurs came after a thorough study, which looked at over 70 potential sites in Belgium and neighbouring countries. Puurs was selected for its proximity to the port facilities in Antwerp its access to the Belgian/EU highway network.

Bobcat and Fiege executives await the champagne to open the new facility,

The new complex is located alongside the A 12 Antwerp-Brussels motorway and is within half an hour of both the port of Antwerp and Brussels Airport.

The new facility is arranged in a series of 'sheds' each offering around 30,000 square metres of warehousing space. It will stock in excess of 500,000 different Bobcat parts and be capable of handling more than 60,000 parts orders per year.

The outside storage area, with new washdown facility, covers around 10,000 square metres, and can accommodate an average of 500 machines waiting to be sent out to dealers.

Arrival and Pre Delivery Inspections are carried out by Fiege employees, checking each machine shipped in for potential shipping damage as well as ensuring they are operable.

Damaged machines can be repaired at the in-house workshop, while chipped paintwork can be corrected on site at the open paint-spraying plant.
