We have just heard of a fatal tower crane incident in Germany last month, in which a rail mounted crane working on new road bridge over the Bleiloch Dam near Saalburg-Ebersdorf between Leipzig and Nuremburg overturned.
The incident occurred on September 6th, the initial report from the investigation, indicated that the operator of the 25 to 30 metre high crane had inadvertently travelled it into the rail stops without slowing. The resulting dynamic forces caused it to tip forward. The deceased, aged 60, is believed to be the operator, although he was trapped under the tower while four others were injured, one of them age 30, seriously.
We have yet to see any updates from the investigation but will update this if and when we do.
