Terex in discussions with ABG Heavy Industries
ABG Heavy Industries of India announced yesterday that it has concluded the purchase of a Terex Demag CC8800-1 Twin, the world’s largest crawler crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 3,200 tonnes for its crane rental fleet.
The Mumbai based company has also announced that it is in negotiations with Terex regarding a possible alliance to manufacture cranes at a new plant that ABG is setting up in Ransai near Navi Mumbai.
Saket Agarwal, a director of ABG Group said: “Terex has shown interest in a tie-up to build cranes at our upcoming plant in India.”
Steve Filipov, president of Terex-Cranes was reported as having visited India this week, most likely to confirm the CC8800 order. According to ABG however, a manufacturing tie up was discussed.
ABG has said that it will start production at its new Ransai factory early next year. With a plan to build 40 units of an 80 tonner details of which it has not specified. The company has alliances with Fushun crawler cranes and Yongmao tower cranes.
ABG hopes to form a similar relationship with Terex.
Daljit Wallia, managing director of Terex India is reported in the local press as saying that the company was looking for a tie-up with ABG to build cranes “as this would enable it to reach customers quickly”.
ABG Heavy Industries specialises in terminal operations and port services as well as crane rental and project services. It claims to be one of the largest crane rental companies in India. The company is publicly traded on the Mumbai exchange
