IPAF appoints new MD

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has announced the appointment of Tim Whiteman as its managing director designate from August 4, 2003. Whiteman will work alongside IPAF’s current managing director, Paul Adorian, until his retirement at the end of the year, at which time Whiteman will take over the reigns.

No stranger to the access and lifting industries, Whiteman has more than 20 years experience in the sectors as a businessman and journalist, including being a partner and co-founder of publishing company KHL International where he was finance director and Editor of its flagship publication, Access International. He is currently the founder/owner of the Vertikal Press, which publishes print and electronic magazines including Cranes & Access, Kran & Bühne, Vertikal.net, Vertikal Bauma and Vertikal Intermat.

Speaking of his appointment, Whiteman said: “Taking on the demanding challenge of the further development and expansion of IPAF is clearly a full time position, which I’m greatly looking forward to.

“I’ve been long impressed by IPAF’s approach and what it has already achieved. I’m looking forward to making a real contribution to building on its sound financial position, strong management and support teams and active involvement of its membership. My aim is to extend the comprehensive support that IPAF offers the industry and its customers to an even wider international base.”

The appointment has been warmly received by IPAF and, in particular, Paul Adorian who commented: “Much as I would like to continue with this challenge, I’m greatly relieved that we have found someone like Tim that I can hand over to with complete confidence.

“He has got the fresh ideas and new perspective, which is exactly what it is going to take to build on the real advances we have made over the last twenty years. I know that he also shares my own fascination and passion for the development of our industry. The past five years have seen very significant changes and I am sure that the next five will prove even more dramatic.”

Whiteman will continue to be based in Basel, Switzerland, while IPAF’s administrative centre will remain at its present location in Milnthorpe, UK.
