Jib comes crashing down in NY
Three buildings were evacuated yesterday after the luffing jib on crawler crane parted company with its boom and came crashing down onto a construction site in Tribeca New York.

The jib was left suspended from its pendant lines
The incident happened on an apartment construction site on the 400 block of Washington Street. Witnesses say that the crane was lifting a load of wood when the jib seemed to “snap” causing the cranes headache ball the ground.
Fortunately the collapse did not cause any injuries nor from what we understand any significant damage. The Buildings Department halted work at the site and is investigating the background the incident.

The crane was an older Manitowoc owned by New York Crane, a subsidiary of Lomma construction. It was erected three to four weeks ago with a tower configuration and has been used for concrete pouring and general lifting on the 300 unit site.
