Volvo picked up the material handling business – North American telehandlers Rough Terrain forklifts - with the Ingersoll-Rand Road Machinery acquisition in April 2007.
This acquisition would expand Skyjack's telehandler product line and add the Rough Terrain straight mast fork lift products, possibly along with some additional manufacturing capacity. The range includes four fixed frame telehandler models and two RT forklifts.
Linda Hasenfratz, chief executive of Linamar (Skyjacks Parent company) said: "The addition of Volvo's Material Handling Equipment business would provide products to complement our premium Zoom Boom telehandler brand. This will allow us to bring our products to a broader group of customers."
Skyjack would most likely move the Volvo ‘assets’ to Ontario and consolidate it with its existing telehandler business which is due to move into a new facility in Guelph along with the company’s boom lift product line.
The proposed transaction is subject to, among other things, the parties reaching a definitive agreement, and further due diligence.
