Lift accident disrupts trains
An accident involving an aerial lift caused serious disruption last week to rail services in East Anglia. The accident happened on a one mile stretch of track between Margaretting and Ingatestone.
Two men were working on overhead lines from the lifts basket when it tipped over and dropped around five metres onto a third worker on the ground below.
None of the three sustained life-threatening injuries, although two of the men were airlifted to hospital. One, said to be middle aged, was suffering from head, chest and leg injuries, while the other for possible back injuries. The third man, one of those in the platform, sustained superficial injuries.
We do not have any further details at this stage of the what type of lift was involved or what might have caused the accident.
