IPAF moves into Barbados

The Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC) based in Warrens, Barbados, recently purchased an Upright LX50 scissor lift and Genie Z60 articulated boom lift from Rapid Platforms of the UK via H & H International.

During negotiations the subject of operator training was discussed, and BAMC management decided to apply the training requirements of the new Barbados Safety and Health at Work Act ahead of its actual introduction into Barbados law.

Detailed discussions resulted in the IPAF (Powered Access Licence) course being selected, and Rapid Platforms was chosen in its capacity as an accredited IPAF training centre to provide the training. Rapid worked closely with IPAF to produce a modified theory test paper based on the draft Barbados SAHAW Act,

The two day course was run at BAMC’s Andrews facility by Rapid’s Chris Buisseret in early June, additional candidates joined the course from the company’s Portvale site. In addition to the platform operators, site maintenance managers from both sites also qualified as IPAF PAL operators, giving BAMC seven IPAF qualified MEWP operators on categories 3A and 3B between the two locations.

BAMC has also decided to introduce a Thorough Examinations schedule on its MEWPs, again ahead of the legal requirement to be introduced by the new act.
