Wolffkran Arabia on the move
15 months ago Wolffkran, the German based tower crane manufacturer opened its joint venture operation with Kanoo in Dubai – Wolffkran Arabia.
The company has now opened its second location in Abu Dhabi and is forecasting that it will have a fleet of almost 100 units by the end of this year barely a year after it erected its first rental crane in the region. This is in addition to the cranes that it has sold during the period.
The company has several cranes on prestigious sites, with eight units of over 100 metres height due to be working within the next few months on the Burj Dubai site. Another high visibility project includes Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, the new Formula one circuit with hotel and conference centre, where Six Wolff tower cranes with 60 metre jibs are already at work.

Mark Evans, previously with Terex Demag UK, was recruited to head up the new operation as managing director. Evans said: “Our clients –they receive service and support directly, not through crane dealers as is usually the case. We act as consultants and service providers implementing solutions according to the demands of the individual sites.”

Bob Curtis, general manager of business development at
Kanoo said: “The Wolffkran team deliver the tower cranes and
they offer their special customer service on location. There is excellent cooperation and interaction between the various parties, who are all determined to continue our common success story in the UAE.”
Gerald Topfler, general manager of Johnson Arabia, a joint venture between Kanoo and South Africa’s Johnson Cranes renting mobile cranes, works closely with the sister company and said: “A great working relationship has grown between Wolffkran and Johnson over the last year. There is a cross over on our customer bases and indeed we are often involved with the same contractors and projects.”
Dr. Peter Schiefer, Wolffkran’s chief executive and joint owner adds: “As the booming construction industry achieves structural engineering feats by building ever higher, it is a particular value point that Wolffkran can provide the customer with greater free standing heights, and therefore fewer ties to the building. This is winning us contracts, reducing delays and overall contributing to realising cost effectiveness for our customers.”
