Best intentions
Spotted near London, UK two men who arrived to work on a large sign equipped with a truck mounted lift- but soon found that it was not big enough for the job.
When fully telescoped it just reached the signs gantry stage, so instead of working efficiently from the safety of a truck mounted aerial lift they clambered out onto the sign and worked from their – without a harness in site.

A platform but not one that can reach
In the words of our reader: “Please see pictures attached of a near miss spotted on the A312, main road for the M4 on outskirts of London. Two men fitting a sign no harness in site, also used a truck mount that came up short of the handrails of the sign before climbing out the machine platform”
Given the risk of a gust of wind catching the banner and knocking them off their perch, a definite one for our Death Wish series which demonstrates the need for proper planning.

A closer look

If the structure has ladders and guardrails fitted to it, presumably to allow maintenance and changing of the advertisement, why should it need a powered lift?
