Lost load
A boom lift came off the back of a delivery truck after striking a low bridge this morning in Erdington, Birmingham, UK

The load was simply too high to pass beneath the bridge
The top of the articulated boom JLG struck a rail bridge which has a 4.1 metre overall height warning on it, pulling the lift off of the side of the low loader trailer – landing on its side. Thankfully it came off on the side of the verge and no one was hurt or injured on the incident.
The local fire brigade was rapidly on the scene to help with recovery and environmental issues. The bridge was also inspected for structural damage as we go to press.

Why? Was it a brain fade by the driver? there are transport guidlines and height restriction notices. Maybe time to add technology regarding height of load vs proposed route co-ordinates. I have seen the best ewntal yard drivers have the same issue when pushed beyond the limit. it has cost them their liscence and reputation, and the young aggressive manager on the other end of the radio has escaped prosecution. Surely a sophisticated transport logistics system could have an App or SatNav programme to provide guidance for road side slope, width, bridge capacity, clearance of overhead structures. Can the Crane industry work with assisting to develop a solution. Just a thought.
