15 years of Vertikal.net
With Bauma due to open on Monday Vertikal.net is celebrating its 15th anniversary having launched at Bauma 2001.
The first English language story was posted online on April 3rd 2001 and was titled ‘A new force in heavy lifting’. And continued “Mammoet and Hovago Cranes have created a joint venture to purchase a Manitowoc 999 with a 149 luffing jib”. The story is still online and available to read
click here to read the full story That was story number three, the very first story to go on Vertikal.net was in German on March 30th 2001, it also included the very first photo to be uploaded to Vertikal.net.
It was titled
‘Der deutsche Markt ist gesättigt’ or the German market is saturated. It reported on a statement made by Leopold Mayerhofer Geschäftsführer of Ring Lift at the time, who said “The German market is saturated with electric scissor lifts to 12 metres” How wrong he turned out to be…. But he is not the first to make such a statement and rates probably warranted the statement at the time- but then again they were probably better than today? But that is another story.
The latest report posted today carries the number 25,251 all of which are available on line using the news search box. In terms of photographs there are 32,452 as of this morning. These days around 10,000 individuals log on to Vertikal.net every working day – that was probably an annual number for 2001 and 2002!
If you are in Munich next week do stop by and collect a copy of Vertikal Bauma – it is also celebrating its 15th anniversary and the biggest Vertikal Guide to date. Finally a big thank you to all of our contributors, readers and supporters who make it all possible.

Congratulations to all at Vertikal. I remember writing those first stories and then waiting for a reaction - and it came fast. We were ahead of our time, but the readership snowballed and has exploded as the editorial has gone from strength to strength! I will certainly join you for a celebration and look forward to readig about it!
Best regards Tim Whiteman

Dear Leigh. It seems longer. But then that photo you use all the time showing a young man does cause confusion. You have a great website as I always tell you. So well done and keep it up. I may get up to Vertikal - if its only to take an up to date photo!
