Painter injured in overturning boom
A man painting the underside of a bridge carrying the Interstate 78 highway in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was badly injured yesterday when he managed to overturn the boom lift he was working from.
The boom lift, a JLG 800 series, tipped over backwards with the man falling around 12 metres. We do not know yet if he was searing a harness and stayed in the basket, or if he was thrown clear.
The boom on he lift was fully elevated and it looks as though it was driven up the slope causing the machine to lose stability. The local Salisbury township police said the man was conscious and talking after the incident, but had most likely suffered some bone fractures.

Why does this keep happening. Is it the training, the site assessment or just unlucky.
It is time to review the consequences of operating an AWP on soft or inclined surface. Doe the trainers cover this in Pennsylvania ?

Is there a little too much rear ballast on these machines ? I seem to hear of a lot of larger JLG's going over backwards
