Exhibition poor practice
The access industry let itself down last week at Platformers Days, with plenty of poor practice on display. The number of exhibitor allowing people to go up in boom lifts without a harness has multiplied in comparison to two years ago.

A number of exhibitors did not bother with harnesses this year
And at least one exhibitor showed a machine with the drop bar entry gate taped up. This shortly after IPAF narrowly prevented the European Commission from banning the use of sliding mid-rails because precisely due to this kind of practice!

A tied mid rail drop bar on display
At the time some Scandinavian representatives argued that sliding mid-rails were so regularly tied-up that they were useless, while this is not actually the case, it is very ‘poor form’ for equipment to be displayed publicly in this manner.
One area that was more positive was the use of outrigger mats, where most, if not all, exhibitors did use proper mats under the outrigger pads of their machines.

An exhibition is a place where best practice ought to be on display along with the latest machines. If the industry cannot get it right at such an event, what are the chances for users getting it right on site?

Dear Leigh.
As organizer of Platformers' Days I would like to note:
All exhibitors have been informed that IPAF regulations for safe using of platforms are obligate at Platformers' Days.
We even have harnesses in stock which exhibitors can lend for free as well as outrigger mats.
As you see we don't need more strict rules but increased awareness of safety.
