Liebherr expands UK facility
Liebherr Sunderland, the UK based manufacturer of maritime cranes and cargo handling equipment, is planning to expand its production facility.
Following significant growth in demand, including an order for four RL2650-25 D EX Litronic offshore cranes for international energy and utilities company GDF Suez, the 600 square metre extension will enable the company to build maritime cranes in advance of orders significantly reducing lead times.
Liebherr Sunderland’s managing director Ralph Saelzer said: “Through being able to manufacture cranes off the shelf, we can cut down on waiting times for potential clients and offer a very short delivery time. Although we have been hit by the global downturn along with everyone else, thankfully our workload has always remained at a level where we can sustain our operation. We hope that building these cranes ahead of orders being received will allow us to place ourselves in a very strong position going forward.”
