Samson/Manitowoc unveil revolutionary crane rope

Manitowoc and Samson Rope have launched a revolutionary synthetic crane hoist rope at Conexpo, the KZTM100, said to be the first synthetic hoist rope designed specifically for mobile cranes.

The product, a result of a joint application development between synthetic rope manufacturer Samson and Manitowoc, offers a number of significant benefits.

It is 80 percent lighter than wire rope and boasts torque neutral construction that eliminates load spin and cabling. The new rope is also very easy to handle for reeving and installation etc… it is also resistant to kinking, ‘bird caging’ and damage from other types of cable-spooling issues.

The cost is said to be close to double that of an average wire rope, but could easily last twice as long, which coupled with its other benefits and efficiencies will make it commercially viable for some applications. Manitowoc says that it has an 18 month exclusive on the use and sale of the new rope.
