Asbestos roof worker

A reader in the UK spotted a man working on an old asbestos roof in Scotland with minimal regard for safety.

Not only is the man working on the asbestos roof without any protective equipment but there is no edge protection to prevent a fall of up to eight metres. There is also nothing to prevent him falling through what is a relatively delicate roof.

The two roof ladders - which are clearly in a poor state with one featuring a broken rung - are about two metres short of the roof edge, but then again he is not using them anyway… We assume he crossed the roof panels from the poorly constructed scaffold tower – which probably qualifies as a Death Wish in its own right. Add to this that they might be in danger of disturbing asbestos fibres and one wonders what sort of builder they are.

Working eight metres up on an asbestos roof without any protective equipment

In the words of our reader: “These guys are on an asbestos roof that is about 30 years old. They are taking the moss of with scrapers and wire brushes and have no masks, glasses, paper suites, or washing facilities. The ladders are broken and also don't reach the bottom of the roof.”

Definitely one for our Death Wish series.
