Kalmar cranes for Colombia
Colombian terminal operator Port of Cartagena group has ordered 23 Kalmar rubber tyred gantry cranes and 79 Ottawa T2 terminal tractors for two of its terminals in a deal worth approximately $50 million.
Sociedad Portuaria Region de Cartagena (SPRC) will take delivery of five cranes and nine terminal tractors while Terminal de Contenedores de Cartagena (Contecar) will take the remaining 18 cranes and 70 tractors. The tractors feature a specially designed battery powered electrical air conditioning system which is expected to save up to 30 percent in fuel costs. They will also feature Kalmar’s SmartPath tracking system which automatically assigns the closest equipment to a job, reducing driving distances and fuel consumption. Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2016.
Dan House of Kalmar said: "SPRC operates with one of the largest Kalmar RTG fleets globally and this agreement further demonstrates the importance of long-term partnerships where continuous support remains paramount in maintaining efficient terminal operations. The cranes will come prepared for future remote control and semi-automation features, which will be added in the near future. We are also delighted that SPRC and Contecar chose the new generation Ottawa T2 terminal tractor, which was introduced to the market last year. This is the largest single order for T2 in South America."
