Off the back of the truck
A boom lift slipped off the back of a truck yesterday in Waterford, Ireland as the truck was halfway around a roundabout.

The incident scene
According to our correspondent conditions were icy with an outside temperature of just above freezing, having been down as low as minus four degrees centigrade overnight. Nobody was hurt in the incident although the boom lift, a Genie S-45, suffered significant damage.
In the words of our correspondent: “ I came across this only minutes after it happened and could see no chains or straps visible anywhere. No one was hurt but the Genie S-45 in the picture had its upper boom twisted and would certainly be a scrap. The company who own the boom and truck are GPT hire”.
Obviously the fact that our man did not see any tie down equipment, doesn’t mean that the machine was not originally tied down, although clearly it was not sufficiently well secured. This could have been much more serious had a small car been travelling alongside the truck at the time.
