The scene as the boom lift is recovered
The man Lionel Chacon,55, was taking his Genie S-65 boom lift - owned by H&E Equipment - from its overnight storage area to work on the bridge near the Palmetto Expressway in Hialeah when . a large pick-up truck slammed into the platform. The original police report suggested that the impact had thrown Chacon from the platform with the fall causing his death, while a photo that we have been sent indicates that the basket was ripped from the boom. Although it is possible that it was removed during recovery.
Police said that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the incident and that the pick-up was not being driven recklessly. It looks as though the platform had been driven into an open lane of the road before first light and that the pick-up caught the underside of the basket.
