Crane operator injured
A loader crane operator has suffered life threatening injuries after he was crushed by the load he was placing at a recycling plant in Munich.
The incident occurred when the crane’s operator, 62, lifted a conveyer from his truck to place and attach it to a new shredding machine, which had also just been delivered. German police report that the operator left the crane, with the remote controller hanging from his hip. Precise details of what happened are vague, but reports suggest that he managed to catch the boom control lever on a piece of steel which caused the boom to slew in his direction so that the load pressed him against the shredder, causing crushing injuries.
Employees working nearby rushed to the man’s assistance, but could not operate the crane so eventually freed him by cutting through the web slings holding the conveyer.
The man was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries.
