Liebherr delivers 1,500th LTM 1070

German crane and access rental company Ley-Krane has taken delivery of the 1,500th Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 All Terrain crane.

The four axle 70 tonne LTM 1070-4.2 features a 50 metre main boom and incorporates some of the manufacturer’s latest technology, including VarioBase outrigger set up system, EcoMode power and remote controls.

Launched in 2004 as the LTM 1070-4.1. it was then updated in 2008, with the additions of speed-dependent rear axle steering, disc brakes and the new LICCON2 controller, becoming the LTM 1070-4.2.

Company owner Markus Ley said: "The Variobase variable outrigger base enables us to use the crane flexibly and above all more safely. The remote control is another major contribution to enhancing safety because the crane driver is closer to the job and can see everything that is happening. The crane can also be assembled more easily."

"As it is a four axle machine, it is very compact and can carry a great deal of ballast on the road. That means we can use the crane very flexibly without additional transport costs. The new engine is more powerful and uses less fuel. In our mountainous region we can make significant fuel savings."

Ley-Krane is based in Gummersbach to the east of Cologne (Koln) and runs a fleet of over 200 aerial lifts and 15 mobile cranes ranging from 50 to 300 tonnes with around 30 employees. Ley has also ordered a new ‘flagship crane’ a 450 tonne eight axle Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1. The company was established in 1850, and is managed by the sixth generation of the same family.
