First Hups for south east Asia
Potain has delivered the first two four tonne Hup 32-27 self-erecting tower cranes to Thailand and Malaysia.
The Hup 32-37, which was launched last year, can handle 1,000kg at its 32 metre jib tip, while its 2.25 metre tail swing and compact footprint allow it to be positioned closer to buildings. The jib can luff to three positions - 10, 20 or 30 degrees above horizontal , while an all new radio remote controller features a large colour screen and easy to use ‘jog dial’ navigation New Smart Set Up software displays simple on screen, step by step information during erection.
In Thailand, Bangkok based construction company Christiani & Nielsen has taken delivery of the first Hup 32-27 in the country. Delivered by local dealer SB Siam, the crane went straight out to a project in Khon Kaen in the north east, where it will be working at a factory for the next two years lifting steelwork, cement and formwork.
Christiani & Nielsen senior manager Som Puangmalai: “We decided on the Hup 32-27 because it is a better and more cost efficient alternative to a mobile crane. We would need four mobile cranes to lift what we can with this one crane. With its reach and height, it can stay in one place to do all the jobs on the site. It is also quick to erect and easy to control.”

In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Selangor based HAB Construction has taken delivery of the new Potain Hup 32-27, delivered by local dealer IFT. The company bought its first Potain cranes from IFT back in 1996. The Hup 32-27 will spend the next year on the new DoubleTree hotel in I-City, Selangor. The development also includes a three storey car park, an office tower and two residential buildings.
HAB Construction executive director Ong Tien Ling said: “The Hup’s height is perfect for the projects we work on, like shopping malls and car parks. We consider it to be like a mini tower crane. Its speed and ease of use are impressive, and the fact that it’s easy to transport is a huge bonus, too.”
