March show cancelled
Swiss construction equipment exhibition Baumaschinenmesse Bern, scheduled for the 17th March 2021, has been cancelled due to ongoing concerns and uncertainties around the Covid-19 pandemic. As it stands it is possibly the first 2021 event in our calendar to be called off.
The organisers announced the decision via an email to the exhibitors earlier this week, which stated: “The high level of planning uncertainty and the effects of the official requirements on the character of the trade fair would make implementation more difficult. We are aware that an appearance at the exhibition is associated with a long lead time for most exhibitors. Against this background, the prevailing planning uncertainty and the legal restrictions mean a high economic risk in an already difficult time."
“The decision to cancel early was very difficult decision, but even for visitors, a trade show like this is not very attractive under the current conditions. The live character of the event might be completely lost.”
The organisers are working with Bernexpo to look at alternatives including some form of virtual format. It has not made any decision on rescheduling and might just leave it until the next scheduled show was planned in 2023.
Vertikal Comment
We are all hoping of course that by the start of the new year a vaccination or highly effective treatment might be ready, making it safe for normal life to return. And at the very least that by the spring this pandemic will be behind us. However as this announcement so clearly demonstrates nothing is certain.
