Surviving a shock

A man that received a massive electric shock while working from an aerial work platform in Texas is in a stable condition in hospital.

The man, Jason Shields, of Cutting Edge Graphics, used the platform to reach a sign in Gatesville, Texas, - west of Waco - when he came into contact with an overhead power line last Monday. He received a substantial shock and fell to the floor of the platform. It took the emergency services some time to shut the power down, before rescuing him with a fire rescue platform.

Jason Shields before the incident

He was airlifted to the Austin burns centre where he is now reported to be stable but facing a long slow recovery. A friend has set up a GoFundMe account to help support the family and cover some of the medical costs: www.gofundme.com/f/help-jason-shields-and-his-recovery. So far it has raised around $6,000. Any help will be much appreciated.

Lest anyone underestimate the devastation of coming into contact with an overhead power line, perhaps the photographs below - just two of a series that the family has released from the hospital - will hopefully make person think twice before operating their platform too close to powerlines.
