JLG’s badged 360 telehandlers arrive in USA

JLG’s plans to introduce a range of 360 degree telehandlers in partnership with Dieci, have moved on to the next stage with the arrival in the USA of the first units of the initial three model range.

Announced last September See JLG goes 360 the three models are: the 20 metre/6,000kg R1370 and the 24.1 metre/6,000kg R1385 with four section booms, along with the 30 metre/5,000kg R11100 which boasts a five section boom. For our readers in the USA those measurements are: 67.3ft/13,200lbs, 85ft/13,200lbs and 100ft/11,000lbs respectively. These machines are based on Dieci's latest Pegasus models, the 60.21, the 50.25 and the 45.30, but have been adapted to the local market and JLG’s requirements.

They feature front and rear scissor style outriggers with up to six degrees of automatic levelling. Power comes with a Perkins diesel on the R1370, while the R1385 and R11100 are equipped with FPT diesel engines. All models feature a two speed, ‘stop to shift’ hydrostatic transmission that delivers a smoother ride over uneven terrain. Foam filled tyres are standard on all models, with the option of air filled tyres in two different treads.
A line-up of 13 attachments includes work platforms, crane jibs and winches, standard and rotating carriages, forks, buckets, truss booms and coupler mounted hooks.

Technology on the three machines includes: Automatic attachment recognition, a Load Management Information System and a Load Stability Indicator. The automatic attachment recognition system recognises the attachment at the end of the boom, alerts the operator for confirmation and then displays the appropriate load chart. LMIS indicates whether the load is compliant and prevents operation that violates the load chart’s boundaries. LSI limits the rotating telehandler’s functionality when a load nears maximum capacity.

The cabs have air conditioning and a secondary heating unit, adjustable suspension seats with integrated armrests and an adjustable steering column. A reversing camera and lighting package are also standard, while optional work lights can be added.

Vice president of engineering Rogerio dos Santos said: “Rotating telehandlers have long been popular across Europe. With the global megatrend towards urbanisation, we are seeing an increased need for these types of machines in the United States. With more city centres come narrower streets and taller buildings with less open space between them. In these types of applications, it is sometimes challenging to use traditional telehandlers. Rotating telehandlers offer the ability to place the machine in a fixed position and reach multiple areas of the site, which means less repositioning and a reduction in machine traffic.”

Rotating telehandlers can help improve both productivity and safety, while reducing the number of machines and machine operators required on congested urban sites.
